In 2016 Innovia, Wigton’s biggest employer, opened its brand new multi-million pound facility to manufacture the polymer for the new Bank of England notes.
To celebrate the release of the first £5 polymer note, developed and led by Trust Manager Sandra Keaveney, NADT organised a world record attempt to create the biggest ever human pound symbol in Wigton in October 2016. The record attempt was achieved with 1530 taking part and included youngsters from St Cuthberts Primary School, Wigton Infant School, Thomlinson Junior School and the Nelson Thomlinson School who were also joined by members of the public.
